This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

16 inches of new snow
Boston got a total of just over 16 inches of snow over the past couple days. Skippy and I took a walk to the community gardens to look at my plot. It looks like a different place under the blanket of white. Skippy and I couldn't walk much in the deep snow. I'd need to come back with snow shoes or skis.

Wow, that low sun is making quite a statement!

How truly lovely and beautiful! My PWD Pixie would be astonished as she has never seen the white stuff. She does send her thanks as you and Skippy inspired us to begin gardening several months ago. She was delighted to find some of her favorite veggies could emerge from her very own yard and promptly ate the first decent-sized zucchini herself! Since then we've shared summer squash and corn, green beans and peas. The peas were slow but have really taken off with the advent of cooler weather - also now spinach, lettuces, carrots and beets. All organic. Her tummy thanks you (so do the humans) and, as I work in the yard, I often think of you and Skippy. We live in Ahwatukee which is next to Tempe so you know what our weather is like - Pixie went swimming in the pool just yesterday. I hope to take my family to the Botanical Gardens very soon because your pictures were so lovely. Best wishes to you and yours for a very happy holiday season and new year!

We've been dumped on here, as well...more snow than we've seen for about 10 years. It does have a quiet sort of beauty.
Hi Daisy and Pixie! Your garden sounds wonderful. My sister in Tempe has squash and broccoli just starting to grow now. Not us... Winter has only just begun here.
I wonder if Skippy prefers snow or swimming. He loves both. There were many happy dogs today out running in the fresh snow.
That sun statement was photographed at 3:45! I look forward to seeing the summer sun again some day. Hard to believe there's so much snow already.
That is about how much snow we ended up with after the snow that came over the weekend. A winter wonderland for sure, even if it came a little early.
What a wonderful picture! London comes to a halt if we even have a couple of inches of snow! pathetic the transport infrastructure just can't cope! pathetic. What would we do with 16 inches!! I would take my doggy out for long walk and play snowballs! Merry Christmas
We were similarly blanketed over in CT. Your picture captures the sun and the peace of winter so well. It helped me remember that the seasons can each have their uniqueness, especially on the days I long for the long summer sun.
