This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

today's planting list
Heliotrope, Marine (1 pot) Lettuce, Prizehead (4-pack) Broccoli, Calabrese (4-pack) Broccoli, Marathon F1 (4-pack) Eggplant, Orient Express F1 (4-pack)
We will have the same Broccoli planting date as I just finished mine before logging into the computer.
I see you are planting lettuce. You can seed and transplant the 'surprise seed' as you would lettuce, although it is not lettuce. It can take light frost so it can be started indoors over the next month. It could also be direct sown outdoors when you plant out your broccoli.
Evening Kathy, I have been transplanting some seedlings on to the next stage, i.e. from seed compost to John Innes No. 1. Do you or fellow readers know if it is o.k. to re-use the seed compost for another batch of seed or shall I just put it in the compost heap? It seems a shame to dump it.
It's this exciting? I agree that planting seeds is relaxing. And so HOPEFUL . . . yes, spring is on it's way! I'm all done with my seeds until it's time to seed the larger quick-growing plants -- like cukes, squash and melons. Now . . . I'm just waiting for my sprouts! Have fun! -Sandy
