This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

my first lettuce harvest
I harvested three heads of lettuce yesterday. They made a delicious salad. I will try now to see if I can keep our salad bowl full until October without buying lettuce. I have to keep seeding....

I just happened upon your blog. Your lettuce patch looks very healthy. I'm so impressed. I've been growing lettuce in my garden too, but we only planted a few seedlings and I only have head lettuce. But from the looks of your garden, I'm thinking I really need to expand my crop next year!

That looks so great! it is wonderful to see so many bloggers reporting their first harvest in the last few days. Home grown lettuce is quite different from shop bought leaves. Enjoy!
Home grown lettuce varieties are more tender and flavorful than store bought. Also, there's something about growing my own that tastes great.
Looks great! What three types are pictured?
