This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

garden aerial
Deep shadows. Piles of compost on the beds. Fallen maple leaves.
Still growing: Sage, parsley, oregano, collard greens, celeriac and marigolds.
The dahlia still hasn't frozen down. (Lower right of photo.) We haven't had a hard frost up next to the house yet. I usually wait til is dies back to dig the tubers, but will probably do this today anyway.

How lovely! I think the one in the middle showing the garden from above is great!
Back when we lived in a condo I had Dahlia's over winter in the soil. I haven't grown any in a while, maybe I should look for some saucer plate ones next year.
Al neat and tidy ready for rest and a new season. I picked our last Dahlias last week, there are some still some buds but I will be amazed if they bloom, they will probably rot with all the rain we are having. We dug up the ones on the lottie that we grew from seed, didn't expect them to have such large tubers, I guess these will be o.k. to put in again next year.
