I was trying to catch (photographically) two red squirrels that were running up and down this stone wall yesterday. But I couldn't do it. They are fast and shy. So this is just a stone wall photo.
Its another sign of spring that the squirrels are "playing tag". Actually its the squirrel mating season and their antics are wild.
This could be a phenologism to note: plant onion seeds when the squirrels begin chasing.
Other spring signs now are the chickadees have begun singing spring songs, the fur is on the pussy willows, and snow drop buds have emerged.
Tomorrow our area is expecting snow. Our lovely bare ground will be covered with a foot of new snow it seems. Oh well... The kids are hoping for a snow day.

New England stone walls are very photogenic. Your photo made me nostalgic and reminded me of the poem by Robert Frost about good fences making good neighbors. By the way, in our area, the chipmunks LOVE the stone walls.

Do you ever find teaberries in the snow kathy. When I lived in CT we used to find them all the time in the snow ... the bright red berries showing up against the cold white snow. Very tasty. Just like the old chewing gum. And, now is the time to chew on the ends of new birch branches .. also very tasty. Winter in the new England woods is fun.
Matron, We love to look for the movies you mention. We watched the The Great Escape with Steve McQueen and the potato vodka scene. We probably watched it nearly a million times after you mentioned it (though I never watch the ending...) We'll look for this one next.

I miss NE rock walls! We moved from Melrose (Northshore) to Wyoming in 2003.
