Chinese broccoli (gai lan)

chinese broccoli in pan

I made up a recipe for this vegetable I discovered at the supermarket this week. Laura recommended blanching.

Recipe:

Trim and wash
Blanch about 5 minutes in boiling water, drain
Heat walnut oil, add gai lan, stir fry about 5 minutes
Add crushed chili pepper, salt and sesame seeds to taste

I've found a couple of on-line sources for seeds and look forward to trying to grow gai lan next year. I hear it does well in the cooler spring and fall weather.

You did not say whether the gai lan was good. It sounded like a very tasty recipe, " Julia". You should publish your recipe creations. You could call it---"Unusual Recipes using Vegetables from Skippy's Garden"---or "Recipes using Unusual Vegetables from Skippy's Garden". I'm sure it would be a hit.
