pussy willows

pussy willows
My first spring buds/flowers? - catkins of Salix caprea or pussy willows. These are in my backyard.

This bush is very sheltered and right next to my house. Its always early.

They are getting even bigger and fluffier this week. I'll have to go out with my camera soon. Or maybe I'll just pat them. ;)

Do you know if there is any public place near Boston where I could snip off a branch? It's kind of a family tradition to have them wherever you live (in memory of our grandfather, who took us all pussy-willow-hunting), but I haven't seen any yet so far...although, I live in Cambridge near MIT's campus, so I suppose I'm not surprised that I haven't seen them...
