planting records

This is my planting record for the year 2008. I started seeds indoors in trays inside in front of a big south facing window. Midway through growing I added some indoor plant lights. I did my first outdoor sowing on March 18! Peas and fava beans.

I have added information on sowing and transplanting dates, planting location (home garden or community plot) and comments on crop quality (poor, OK, GREAT etc)

I'm in Western Mass. Is your ground still frozen - or did you plant the peas and beans in raised beds?

The soil in a sheltered area along the south face of my house, which gets full sun, is thawed and seems quite warm. That's where I planted the peas. Its just a flat bed, not raised.

The soil of my raised beds is almost totally shaded by a house to the south in the winter and is mostly still frozen solid. No planting there yet.

We still have about a foot of snow covering our backyard. We got hammered this winter. I cannot wait to start planting. I did a little bit of winter sowing but everything is still buried. My sister recommended your site - she and her husband went to Carleton. ;)

I'm soo glad our snow is gone. Last year we had a big storm in Boston in mid March. Here's a photo of my garden last year on March 21st with 6 inches of snow cover.

Do you plant a fall crop? And if so, do you know what will go in when?

Here is my fall planting plan.

The crops I have planted are updated on the post above. Another post is here.
