This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. But Skippy always stood by me and was a great friend. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps and garden with me. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees and berry bushes, chickens and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

garden blog PIRATE site

Pirate site

Check out this pirate site! Gardening Realm Boo! Is it just me they're stealing from? Do you recognize your material here?

I didn't give my permission for them to use my material and I left a comment today for them to remove it. Let's see if I get a response.

By the way, thanks to Mostlypurple for finding this lousy this.

wow, they even stole your post referring to them stealing your post...WTF?

It reminds me of lazy students plagiarizing a website and changing some key vocab words to make it 'their own'.

Hi Kathy,

I read your blog every single day.. sometimes twice! Love it, love your passion ... you totally inspired me to start my own veggie patch last year... all the way in India!

I checked out the gardening realm site you posted here, seems they have more than a few ( if there is such a thing) posts of yours.

Horrible!

I just commented on their stolen version of your post. I'm interested to see if they allow it or block it. shameless!

What the heck? They're just stealing your site, and running it through a bad English-to-English translator.

!!! Terrible—!
How does one stop that? They are stealing every single one of your posts and swapping out words.

Though the post of the stolen post, is nicely ironic.

Wow they are stealing all your content and not even looking. They even have this post up. Which is quite amusing since they are calling themselves pirate on their own site.

If you can find out who hosts their site you can get it stopped. If they host it themselves I'd start putting a header in my blog saying that if it isn't at your site (with link) then they are thieves. My blog is not copyrighted but has a creative commons license but they would still have to attribute the post to me (ie link to my blog).

They must be stealing your RSS Feed and running it thru a "translator" to make it look like theirs. Booo.

Unfortunately I'm not sure if there's a way to block it.

It looks like a Wordpress site. I'd contact them and complain. Then, if someone here can figure out how to tell who is hosting that page (since it appears to be a wordpress.org site, it has to have a separate host) and complain to them. Most hosts take that stuff very seriously!

It's really weird though ... it's almost like a hack through some sort of bug vs. a human being actually doing it.

What a cheek. The language is very amusing, just how long did it take you to put up your "blockade"?

It's very strange. The fact that this post has also posted to their site- which is not good for them. Not sure what to do- it's just very very weird.

Looks like they use this hosting provider:
http://www.theplanet.com
Might be worth contacting their legal department.

I have just now filed a formal complaint through a Blogger copyright protection site. I don't know if this is an appropriate site. I will look into Wordpress too.

Thanks for the advice.

The word translator is very funny. I guess they prefer to be called a "bandit site" rather than a pirate site. And I'm chuckling about the "blockade" I built around my garden plot.

Thanks edward3h,

I just sent an email to the legal department at The Planet.com

Simply put a square of skinless ripened offspring and a little booze or old wine in to a bowl.

Whoa. Those are some gardening tips.

I wonder if they are changing a few words in your posts to get around being seen as stealing your posts? The word changes seem automated because the same words were substituted each time you used them.
Good luck! I wish there was something more we could do about this (in general, because this is the second splog I have seen in 24h).

Kathy,

I'm sorry to hear your posts are getting stolen. Wasn't it just last year someone was taking your garden photos for their website?

I hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks again for the help all. Its hard enough to find the time to garden, much less defend my hobby against this stuff.

And like you say, its just not cool. If personal property isn't respected on line, people won't post it.

If you Google the titles, you can find out who's blog it is from. This post http://www.gardeningrealm.com/a-weed-that-can-stay-for-a-while/

is from here:

I wonder if this blogger knows...

That's the cheesiest thing ever. At least when I've caught people pirating my e-books, it's good old-fashioned trying to make a buck the dishonest way, which I can understand if not respect. This is just being too lazy to write your own damn posts!

Just wanted to let you know that yesterday I tracked down their hosting company and reported the site for stealing your and other's content. It seems they've removed your content, but there's plenty of other blog scraping being done there.

You can help fight this by reporting their domain name as spam to GoDaddy, as well as emailing their hosting company, security@hostgator.com.

Blogger Meagan said...

OK, I got a response from the hosting company. You (or any author who has had their content copied) will have to file a DMCA request with the hosting company. The exact instructions are included in an email they have sent me, which I would love to forward to anyone who has had their content copied, so that you guys can take this guy DOWN! Email me at meaganhanes (at) gmail (dot) com and I will forward you the instructions.

Hi, Kathy-
What I think is so odd is the strange bad translation aspect.

I actually sort of agree with Silli, since I can't imagine why anyone would read those, compared to the original posts.

I haven't looked to see how many of my posts they'd snagged, but the Fall Color Walk seemed awfully flagrant!

The part that I find the most odd is that they don't have ads on the site. Usually content scrapers are using other people's content on sites that they have plastered with GoogleAdSense ads. Why is she stealing your content just to create what looks like a generic personal blog?

It is odd. I don't know. Maybe he/she has a great plan for the site. I have no idea.
