This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

plot beds
I did a bit of work today on my new beds. I want them to be fairly straight and level and have been working on this. The photos help me to see where the unevenness is. I've decided to bring some dirt in to fill them.
I made a stone step today in the sloped area on the north west side of the plot. Skippy posed next to it.

Where are you going to bring the dirt in from? Everything looks great there, this weekend should have great gardening weather!
How deep are those beds? The beds I'm building are much deeper because we have TONS of surface tree roots- but it takes a lot of soil to fill those deep beds! (Ugh!) Are your beds 4x8ish? Looks great!
Beds are 2x4's. 4 inches deep. Dimensions 4x12ft.
Not sure where I'm getting dirt/compost from. I have two compost bins at home to empty and I'm hoping there will be a lot in there, but hard to know ahead of time.
