sunflowers under bulletin board

board 128
board 128b board 130

I found some nice Teddy bear sunflowers in a garden store last weekend and bought plants to go under our community garden bulletin board. I had these in my plot last year. They stay short but fill out and keep blooming.

bulletin board

board 044

The scouts are installing our new bulletin board now!! I am looking forward to posting notices on it soon. All sorts of action is starting up at the community gardens. There were 4 or 5 gardeners out this morning, clearing up from winter and some turning soil already.

There are piles of debris showing up at the periphery of the gardens - I will have to post signs to show where these piles should be located. I'll also post a map of the plots so people know their plot numbers. Of course garden rules should be posted.

The front of the board will be locked and covered with plexiglass for "official" notices, the back will be open cork board for interactive use. I hope there will be communications about seed swaps and gardening tips etc. What fun!

new garden bulletin board

post holes 068

Last weekend a scout from our local boy scout troop started his Eagle project to make a bulletin board for our community gardens. A group of 6 or 8 kids, a bunch of parents (and a couple dogs) dug two 4 foot deep holes. They mixed cement and filled footings in the holes. The footings will allow them to set up their hand made board in a month or so - after our ground has frozen.

The scout has done a lot of work to design a nice board. It will have two sides. The front will be plexi covered and locked for official garden notices, the back will be open so that gardeners can post notices to each others. We are hoping it will be used to arrange seed/vegetable swaps, post events and gardening tips, etc. A good way to build communication.
