today's harvest

harvest IMG_2361

Charley is so happy to get something other than greens from the garden. A big bunch of asparagus! I gave him the bottom ends off of them. Yummy! It's my first year harvesting this 3 year old bed.

Also in this harvest: Two small lettuce heads (Cherokee and Rhazes), some bolting arugula (still delicious), and a few leaves of a broad-leaved escarole.

The lettuce is beautiful, such a dark red color! It's asparagus season here too. Our bed is 10 years old now and gives us lots to eat every year.

Yay to asparagus, spring has truly arrived in your area. It looks like you're putting the hoop house to good use, lots of happy seedlings.

We were supposed to plant out the garden yesterday, but there was tons of unexpected rain. I'm going to have to pot up the tomato plants which are already forming blossoms.

How do you like the rhazes? We've grown Cherokee for the past 2 years and really like it, but the rhazes looks tempting in the catalogue. So many lettuces, so little space!

I love Rhazes. It is very dark. Also Rouxi (not sure of the spelling) is a beautiful bicolor oak leaf.
