This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

Skippy has died in surgery. My faithful friend. We are heartbroken.
So sorry for your and your family's loss. I have very much enjoyed your photos of Skippy in your gardens. From them, you could see he had a good life, and will be missed.
Oh no :( I'm so very sad to read this. Skippy was the luckiest to have you as his human mom, he lead a good life. Our animal friends are sometimes the greatest ones we have in life, I'm so sorry.
oh my goodness. i am so sorry for the heartache you must be feeling. esp given how sudden it seems this all was. my cat of many years died in such a manor a few years ago and the pure shock of it and the sadness that followed was difficult. my sincerest condolences to you and your husband.
When a treasure becomes a memory, then memories become the treasure. It's a good thing that we keep these memories in our hearts and mind. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers.
Oh Kathy, I feel so badly. Skippy was the heart of your garden. He will always be there when you are digging and planting. This has been a rough summer for you. Better days ahead, my friend.
In his sermon at a funeral I attended, a priest once defined a perfect life as being where you are loved perfectly, and you love perfectly. Kathy, it's clear from your posts over the years that Skippy had a perfect life. I'm so sorry that it had to end.
He died just before surgery started. Went into cardiac arrest. His heart couldn't keep up with the blood lost by the tumor rupture. We noticed Skippy seemed unusual at 7 pm, he curled up under my chair and didn't move. 15 hrs later he died.
Skippy lived all his days strong and active. Even his last day, he jumped up into the car, ran and played with Suzie, and in the afternoon found me in the garden and stayed with me a couple hours as I worked there.
I glad to remember him as a great dog. I think of all the years we enjoyed. He loved to run across open fields, he loved any water or boat, especially salt water. We did a lot of kayaking. Played by the ocean. Skippy was a strong swimmer. Remembering way back, he was a wild puppy. He chewed everything he could with his sharp puppy teeth. He was always in motion. He excelled in puppy kindergarten, earned his CGS (canine good citizen) certification, and put in over 50 hour as a therapy dog.
Oh, Kathy, I am so very sorry for your Loss. (((hugs))) You gave back to Skippy the love that he gave to you. You provided him with fantastic life adventures. You shared your soul.
I haven't checked your blog since august and I am so sorry about Skippy. I've enjoyed your blog and seeing him in it. Losing such a friend is heartbreaking. We will all miss him.
I am so sorry for your loss. I've always enjoyed stopping by your blog to see garden stories and pictures of Skippy too. He was a loved dog and enjoyed every day of his life with you and your family. May he forever roam through your gardens, keeping watch over the plot.
Oh Kathy! Can't tell you how shocked I am to read this. I was just catching up when I saw the news under your Stevenson quote. John and I send you our heartfelt thoughts and love. Skip was a wonderful companion and guardian, I am so sad for you all. Take care of yourselves and hold all those special moments you shared close for always. Big hug and love. Marianx
