This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

Hello! your seedlings are doing very well, I had beautiful lettuce growin outside but have been attacked and eaten by snails, I understand you are doing your garden organically, so my question is What do you with the snail and slugs? is there any natural way to get rid of them?
Slugs can be a big problem for lettuce. I admit to using the pellets too. Just a couple. But there have been some clever organic ideas elsewhere on this blog.
I use DE (diotomaceous earth)for slugs and snails. It tears them up when they travel over it. It's organic. You have to reapply when it rains, but it does work. There is no holding time from field to table with this method. DE has a bunch of uses in the garden.

I started some leek seeds and garlic bulbits today... :D
My seedlings are up now and I just started everything else I can. Looks good.
