This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he always thought the garden was his. Even though I do all the work, he always stood by me. I'm located near Boston (in USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot and a backyard vegetable garden. I use sustainable organic methods and try to grow all of my family's vegetables.

the view out my back window

window photo 014

It is 25*F this morning! After last week was in the 80's. Amazing weather pattern! New England is famous for this though we remark every year at how impressed we are. The pussy willows in my backyard are bursting and leaves are out. My orchids are fading after a generous 3 months of color on the sill. I am watching with much pleasure as the birds at the backyard feeder and boxes start their spring routines.

Def. seems y'all in the east coast and midwest are getting freaky 80s while we're getting snow. It warms up in between, though. Looking forward to following your spring gardening activities. =)

How are you keeping all of your plants from freezing? I'm in Brookline and I have my entire garden (of potted plants) sitting on my kitchen floor right now. Did you see the garden show last weekend? My friend Carolyn just wrote about it on her blog http://www.mymove.com/blog/get-ideas-for-your-yard-at-a-garden-show/?blogId=721249

I'm wishing it was 25C! Thanx - I corrected that.

I don;t have many plants outside yet. Just two trays on the patio. My half harvested winter lettuce and a tray of small ones hardening off. I brought them inside yesterday - they're in the south windows getting what sun they can. Looks like it may be awhile til they can go out overnight again. I may put them in my cold frame.

Weather issues aside, I love your photos in this post! The 2nd one has some beautiful textures in the foreground, and I love the chair behind it!
