This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he always thought the garden was his. Even though I do all the work, he always stood by me. I'm located near Boston (in USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot and a backyard vegetable garden. I use sustainable organic methods and try to grow all of my family's vegetables.

my peas are up!

pea sprouts 023

Such brave little sprouts "the sturdy seedling with arched body comes Shouldering its way and shedding the earth crumbs".

I planted my peas on March 17 - St Patrick's Day. Today I looked out the window and thought I saw something in the soil. Sure enough, five rows of pea sprouts. I will plant a couple more rows at Easter for a later crop. Peas (leaves and stems but not the pods) are very hardy to the cold and I am sure they will be fine with whatever weather comes this year. They are in my side yard - I plant here because the chipmunks eat them at the community plot.

I did not get a chance to sow my peas yet. Will try to do it this week or week end. I love seeing how well yours look and very sad that I am not there yet.
Your soil looks very good in these photos, very rich organic stuff.
Happy gardening :]

Sugar snaps are up in SE Virginia. Planted on March 5. Growing fast - maybe 4" tall. Will need a stronger trellis.

I can't wait to get my garden started. It is still getting pretty cold at night in my neck of the woods.

I have a Garden Club blog linky up on my blog if you are interested in linking on it. You can link any post, it doesn't have to be a new one.

I helped my Dad start his garden today. I overturned the soil to find roots and to airate the soil. I had a lot of fun. He planted his seeds. It's fun to see your photos.
