purple cone flower (echinacea)

echinacea 116

I hand collected cone flower seeds last fall. I also tried planting some outside in milk bottles in case they need a cold treatment. But I am happy to see one little sprout here. Maybe more will come.

  1. Hi Kathy...The coneflower seeds I got from Fedco said to "stratify" the seeds for 5 days, meaning put them in the fridge in a ziplock bag on a damp paper towel. Apparently this simulates cold weather and encourages germination. I just planted the treated seeds today, so we'll see what happens.
