This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

BBQ'd pizza with grilled garlic scapes
I picked a big bowl of garlic scapes today. We sauteed them whole in olive oil over the wood fire. Then we chopped and sprinkled them on pizza and grilled the pizza on the fire. The pizza sauce was the last of my garden tomatoes, stored frozen, from last summer. The salad was my first heads of this year's garden lettuce.
Nice to finish the last of last year together with the first of this year.
garlic (Allium sativum)
Your pizza looks delicious and nice night time shot. I should really pick my garlic scapes today, they have already done a double curl.
ReplyDeleteOk- now I'm hungry!!!!
ReplyDeleteYUM!
ReplyDeleteMmmmm, that looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteDid not plant garlic this year, but this is on our list for next year!! Since we have a brick oven in the back yard and are always having pizza partys in the summer what an interesting addition to our "funky" pizza toppings!
ReplyDeleteI love homemade pizzas! I planted my garlic in the ground in early April, so no scapes yet, but I'm really looking forward to it now. Lovely martini also! Makes me want to throw a party in the backyard.
