This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

garden kiosk sign
We have a new little kiosk at our community garden, so I posted this informative sign. If you enlarge the photo, I think you can read it.
It wasn't a rambling comment - it was a very nice one. I read it to my husband and we both enjoyed it. I love to think of how many people have grown gardens in the Belmont Community plots.
The Belmont Gardens look very wild right now. A lot of weeds and overgrown gardens. It seems that the spring/summer garden interest has petered out by now. A few gardeners have cleaned up and planted winter cover crops, but most are just overgrown.
However, I must say the paths are pretty good this year. I mowed and weed wacked them regularly for most of July and August (until I got my bad poison ivy). And now the weeds aren't growing much and the paths are pretty passable. I'm retiring from this volunteer activity until next year.
The comment you left is here, as well as a couple of responses to it.
Hi, I really love how your kiosk turned out and was wondering if you guys built it yourself? I am getting ready to build a kiosk for our school garden project--and was looking around for some good plans. Any info would be very helpful. Thanks, Sarah
Looks Good! I enjoyed reading about the history of your community gardens.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI thought I left a lengthy comment on this post. About how I became a botanist. Yes, it was rambling. Did you see it?
I'm really enjoying your blog.
Thanks!

Sorry I don't really now anything about making the kiosk. The town put it up. I was told they buy kits somewhere.
