This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

garden chores
This week's garden work included: thin the carrots, beets, kale and chard; tie up the tomato vines and the big dahlia; hill potatoes; wrap squash and cucumber stems with cheesecloth; remove fava plants and plant sunflower seeds in their place; remove the last of the arugula and radishes and plant bush beans in their place; fertilize with GardenTone.
Your garden is looking beautiful! Such a neat and tidy setting.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious, what is the purpose of wrapping the squash and cucmber stems with cheescloth? I've never heard of that before.
