up-potting

I transplanted my peppers and eggplants into larger pots today. ...a bit of a mess in the kitchen, but I love working with all these little seedlings.

  1. Your eggplants and peppers look fantastic. They'll be huge by the time they're planted outside. My reseeded peppers are just germinating or just getting their first true leaves.

  2. Yes. I need to check on when I planted these. I think I jumped the gun and planted a week (maybe 2?) early. My tomatoes are tiny and just getting little first leaves now. I think I waited an extra week on them because of the weather.

My husband and I will be setting up a hoop greenhouse this weekend. In my excitement I think that’s the reason I planted peppers earlier than usual. I am so excited to see how this will work. It will be 10x12 ft. Unheated. 8 ft tall at the peak. I will have table space for many trays. I’m looking forward to posting pictures. We’ve been researching how to build it and have all materials waiting in the garage now. It will be a temporary structure for spring only.

  3. A hoop greenhouse sounds wonderful, that'll give you lots of room to experiment with overwintering things as well as starting things early. I leave jugs of water in our tiny greenhouse to release heat at night in the early spring. In larger greenhouses I've seen them use black water barrels as a heat sink for colder areas.
