My cold seems to maybe be getting a bit better. It’s been dragging on almost a week now.
Today I finally got done work done and planted my cucumber and winter squash seeds. One tray each. Also up potted 4 or 5 types of flowers and brought them down to my new greenhouse. The greenhouse is running about 60-70F during the day and 40F at night. Perfect for peas, onions, and other cool weather crops. for now, my tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and other warm weather crops are still on my living room floor. I bring them in and out as temps go above 50F.
After endless weeks of rain we have been blessed with a week of warm sunny weather which means I finally got my snow peas and snap peas planted (chitted them first) and started to empty my cold frame. The spinach, beets and kohlrabi and 5 kinds of lettuce seedlings are now tucked into the garden. The leeks, parsley and flower seedlings are not quite ready. I am hardening off 4 varieties of sweet peas and have divided my dahlia tubers getting them ready for the garden. The dahlias won't go into the ground until about mid may, the soil temperature needs to be about 60 degrees. The Walla Walla onion starts I planted about a month ago are growing nicely. It has been wonderful being in the garden again. NW organic gardener
ReplyDeleteSounds great. I am also making progress with the garden as the weather gradually turns springlike. I planted nice big lettuce arugula and spinach seedlings in my moms garden today. Also chard, broccoli, cabbage and onions. Many(7 or 8) 6-packs of 4 inch peas. It looks nice. We have several cloudy and rainy days coming and temps have warmed into the 60s and staying above 49 at night. I think the seedlibfscwil do well.
ReplyDeleteI think I have bronchitis now following my lousy cold last week. I cough and sniffle now all the time as I garden and get tired out way too fast. Would love to have this bug clear up. I have photos and garden updates to post when I get time and feel better.
so sorry you are still sick... couldn't be a worse time with spring finally here...
ReplyDeleteI planted my chitted snow pea and snap pea seeds on the 23 and 24th....yesterday (the 27th) they were breaking ground...by doing that they get up and growing so much faster than the traditional planting method. I also got my trellises up and planted my sweet peas in the garden. Now we are having a few days of much needed rain. NW organic gardener
ReplyDeleteWe had rain today too. Very nice for my peas.
ReplyDeleteI “chitted” (a new word for me!)snow and snap peas a couple weeks ago. I planted about 100 3-inch tall seedlings of Sugar Snap in my moms garden last Tuesday. Another 100 of Oregon Giant snow peas in my garden yesterday.
I just finally pinched my sweet peas yesterday. They are about4 inches tall with 3 to 4 sets of leaves. I pinched the tops so they will branch. I thought they would grow faster, but just me I guess. I think it is a very slow to come spring.
