I've finished planting most of my fall vagarables now. This week I'll plant a couple more. Fall vegetables are ones I harvest before they are killed by cold weather and don't use any cold protection.
I'm beginning to plan my winter bed now. I'll use the same double layered tunnel that's worked well for me the past couple years. I'll fill this bed with crops that are full grown by early November so I'll be able to harvest them all winter.
My fall vegetables: beets, carrots, Brussels sprouts, cabbage, lettuce, arugula, spinach, escarole, and broccoli.

I'm keeping record of my planting on my 2017 planning list.
I don;t want to think about winter yet!
ReplyDeleteI have just potted up seedlings of merlot and red sails lettuces and fordhook giant swiss chard. I am still harvesting snap and snow peas but that will end soon with the extreme heat we are currently having. The chard will take the peas place in a couple weeks. The lettuce will be for fall and the swiss chard will stay in the ground and be harvested thru the winter and into the spring. Here in coastal northwest the chard does not need winter protection and is sweeter with frost. The shallots and the second plantings of broccoli and beets are almost ready for harvest. The dahlias and annual flowers (from seed) are glorious. NW organic gardener
