spring in my backyard garden

I haven't posted many of my photos recently, so I'm putting together some collections. This is my backyard garden from early April until yesterday. Spring.

By the end of summer, there won't be any dirt showing.

  2. your garden looks great... here in the coastal northwest things are growing very fast, we are eating lots of salads. I am harvesting the last of the spinach, getting ready to put beets in its place. The second planting of lettuce is ready to set out and the peas are starting to produce. I hilled my leeks and potatoes for the fist time last week, the broccoli is close to flowering and the onions are starting to bulb up. My dahlias are almost to the tops of their cages and the sweet peas are about 3 feet tall and getting ready to flower. It has been especially hot this past week so lots of time spent watering. Today it is much cooler. Love this time of year. NW organic gardener

  3. Thank you for the pictures, Kathy! So nice, and I enjoy seeing the progress.

I talk as though my garden is the "back 40", although what I have is 3 4x8 raised beds and 8 huge pots . . pretty funny. Each seedling that pokes through is like Christmas morning to me. Despite the small size, we get a good return for our efforts

Anonymous - I installed an Orbit Garden Enforcer, a motion activated sprinkler that sits on a tripod to keep out vegetable visitors. Anything that walks in the path of the Enforcer eye gets squirted with water. This was mainly for my daughter's puppies who live next door, but it works for anything that moves including me! You have to remember to shut it off when you visit!

  5. I recently found your blog and enjoy it! Your raised beds are lovely. I have just had a "regular" garden but I am planning on building a raised bed for garlic this year. Our soil has a lot of clay so I feel like a raised bed would be easier.

  7. I'm trying to catch up on sharing on my blog. There's just so much fun to have in the garden right now!! Weeding, picking lettuce, weeding. Also weeding.

I planted some lettuce seedlings for my mom today in her garden. I put them in spaces cleared out by harvesting early spring lettuce. I also put them in between her tomato plants. I think they'll like some shade from the summer sun. I planted a second crop of broccoli for her. Oh, and I weeded. Lots of weeding.

Now my summer vegetables are starting to come in. Summer squash is here. I have big beets and bulb fennel to pull and grill for dinner tomorrow. Broccoli and brocollini are awesome. Still a few sweet spring peas for our salads. My peppers, tomatoes, eggplants are growing like crazy now and fruits are right around the corner. Sungold cherry tomatoes this week I think.
