germination test of old corn seeds

Copy of IMG_7166 I'm doing a germination test of my old corn seeds. They were "Packed for 2009" - 6 years old. Any bets on whether they'll sprout?

  1. Interested to see how your test goes. I am winter sowing some 5 year old sweet corn to see how it goes...

  2. I've read that corn seed is short lived, 1 or 2 years, so I'm not optimistic.

  3. How do you do your germination test?

  4. To do germination test, I put 8 or 10 seeds of each variety on a damp paper towel and covered them with a damp paper towel. I kept the towels damp for a week and checked the seeds for sprouting often. I never saw any signs of sprouting. So I threw out all the seeds. I'll buy fresh popcorn seeds.
