This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

planting seeds
I spread a towel on the living room floor tonight and planted a tray of seeds. Skippy kept his eye on the project. I planted broccoli, kale, lettuce, endive, radicchio, and eggplant. (I need to order my potatoes too. I've decided on just two varieties this year: Russet Burbank and German Butterball from FEDCO Moose Tubers.)
Did Skippy help you? :) My cats are always doing more harm than good when I'm planting or sowing.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like you are off to a great start!
ReplyDeleteHappy Spring-almost!
ReplyDeleteWe once had a duck that loved to be there when we dug and turned the beds. She liked gobbling up the grubs from June beetles and Apple Borer Beetles.
Best of luck this year!
ReplyDeleteHave been thinking about doing radicchio this year. Happy sprouting!
ReplyDeleteYes, Skippy likes to step on the trays and cause problems.... He tries to wiggle his way into what I am doing and get attention. He looks good here because he is posing to get a treat.
ReplyDeleteSeeds are easier to start indoors than outdoors. You can more easily provide the perfect conditions for hard-to-germinate or very small seeds, including the ideal temperature, moisture, and fertility.
ReplyDeleteDogs as well as cats are always doing more harm than good when it comes to gardening.
Awesome, I'll be doing the same thing this weekend! Just started following your blog.
