This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.
I see that your brussels sprouts only have tiny sprouts on them. This is what mine look like too- this is my first time growing- is that normal? I would have thought they'd be bigger by now...
My first time growing these. I bought them at a local garden center (Mahoney's) just after they first arrived, and I am assuming they market them at the appropriate time for the local gardens.
I asked a veteran Brussels sprouts grower in our community garden what he thought. He said they look like are going to be fine. He said they will keep growing even as the weather gets cold and by Thanksgiving, they will be ready to harvest.
SO, I have my fingers crossed. My sister said she has a great recipe and would cook them for Thanksgiving if I would grow them.
Trial and error - experiments. Maybe a first time growing works, maybe not. I bet it depends on our fall weather too.
