This toad is one of my best garden helpers (along with Skippy and my gnomes). The toad is at my community plot. I imagine he hopped into my garden when he was tiny. He is now way too big to get out through my chicken wire edges. I have seen him in the garden for 4 years now! He's (or she's?) probably about 5 inches long. A big one! He/she mostly hangs out under the potatoes or parsnips.
Any ideas for a name? (I've been calling him "Toad".)
I wonder if he/she has a companion...
ReplyDeleteYou have a TOAD?!! I am so jealous and you are soooo lucky. Congratulations and take good care of him, as I know you know. #bugs
ReplyDeleteI'm thinking Mr. Toad...:) I haven't seen a frog or a toad in years...not sure why but we don't have them around my house.
ReplyDeleteHow wide is this toad??
ReplyDeleteI wish I had a toad, but I know I have some snakes. Not that they are eating enough of the slugs but I do believe they keep the mice away :]
ReplyDeleteHuli
I suppose maybe the toad might not like "Mr Toad" if she is a Ms.
ReplyDeleteThis toad, I would say is about the size of a baseball - about 3 in wide?, 4-5 in long? 2 in tall. I can't find a ruler now, and it would just be my memory anyway.
That is a very cute toad you have there. It looks so big and chubby. It's probably already made your place its home. But I was wondering. Do toads do anything to the garden? Like, can they cause any harm or whatnot? By the way, I think that Toad is an excellent name for your toad. I mean you've been calling it that for the past years so why not just let that name stick?
ReplyDeleteHow marvelous! I love natural garden helpers. I don't have toads, but we have many lizards. I was so excited when one day I saw two lizards fighting over a tomato hornworm! Children are the best at naming things like that. Do you have any young ones you could ask for help?
ReplyDeleteHow about "Your Honor". S/he's sitting there solemn as a judge.
ReplyDeleteI propose you call him Oracle. Since most PL/QL developers use Toad to develop in Oracle.
ReplyDeleteLOL Jeff, I think calling him Oracle would be great. Perhaps that could be his formal name and "Toad" can remain his nick-name.
ReplyDeleteHow about "Belmont" after your garden/city? Sounds very regal. I found a toad in my garden this year (almost stepped on the poor guy)and it had been ages since I saw one, so I was quite happy.
ReplyDeleteMaria
What a nice and helpful little addition to your garden. I imagine he keeps some of the vegetable eating pests at bay.
ReplyDeleteI'm also wondering, the poor soul, no other toads in his world.
