This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

2012 garden plan
I've cut back on a few things this year, no popcorn, no melons. Only 3 pumpkin plants. Only 12 tomato plants. I'm going to try my tomatoes scattered in different locations in the garden rather than all in one patch hoping this will reduce fungi problems I've had the last few years.
In the center of my plan is a new feature currently under construction, a new garden arbor. I'm planning to grow squash up one side and flowers up the other. It is a good solid wood arbor that can hold the weight of butternut, which are always very productive in this plot.
Your plan looks great! Would you mind sharing how you designed the plan? Is it a computer program? i would love to be able to do that. Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a great plan. I hope you stick to it better than I have stuck to mine :)
ReplyDeleteEverything looks great Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI have been gardening non stop this last 4 days, enhancing my soil and will be transplanting seedlings family this week end.
I have found this "Victorian Kitchen Garden" TV series on YOUTUBE. If you already not seen them I think you will just love them. They grow allot of trellis veggies like squash, melons, cucumbers and so. Unfortunately fall season shows are only 10 min intros.
Cant wait to see everything growing.
Happy gardening;
HULI
Wow! Nice garden plan. I enjoy your site and I nominated it for the Sunshine Award. I think it’s a fun award and I hope you find it interesting:

A garden arbor... what a great idea! I can't wait to see picts of the finished project! I may just need to copy you. I've been wanting an arbor with a small hedge in my side yard to separate the front and back yards, but dear hubby doesn't support the idea because "it will make his mowing more difficult." This will not be true in my fenced garden... :)
ReplyDeleteThanks!

You are so organized. I love the plan and can't wait to see your harvest!
ReplyDeleteI've used a similar garden planner from RH Shumway that I've found very helpful. The best feature is that if you draw your beds, you can put in past vegetable placement and it will help with crop rotation in subsequent years (always a vexing issue- who can remember where things were two years ago!). Here is the link to the planner: http://gardenplanner.rhshumway.com/gardenplanner/gardenplanner.html#
ReplyDeleteHere is another planner from Gardener's Supply.

Love the precise plan, I old school it with paper and pencil.
