This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

thrush or thrasher?
Can you help me identify this bird? He was very upset with Skippy and I walking down the path through his territory. He clucked and flapped. There is probably a nest nearby. Do you think its a brown thrasher or a wood thrush?
That looks very much like our State bird here in Georgia, The Brown Thrasher. There is a movement called "Flip the Birds" trying to change the state bird to the common chicken. Over my dead body. Please welcome the brown thrasher to your state! Blessings from the Garden
My vote is thrasher. The eyebrow, dark beak and long tail all look like a thrasher. The behavior sounds very thrasher-like too.
ReplyDeleteIt's a thrasher. See the two white wing bars? That's how you tell. Great pictures!
