This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

my first harvest of the season - lettuce!
In previous years I have picked my first lettuce at the end of May or even early June. This year May 8!!! It has been a record warm spring here, but also my new cold frame is amazing.
Once I pick my first lettuce, I can usually avoid buying any supermarket lettuce until October. I bet the cold frame will extend the fall end of the season too.
Just got my first big one yesterday!
ReplyDeleteSo the season begins.
I will be harvesting some lettuce tonight for dinner along with spinach.....The season has started.
ReplyDeleteThat is AWESOME:-)
ReplyDeleteYour lettuce looks so healthy!
ReplyDeleteMy sis loves lettuce in her salad. So I bought some lettuce seeds. It's my first attempt in growing them. Hope mine will turn out as good as yours and my sis will love the home-grown ones!
