This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

another pear tree transplanted
Well, we were able to transplant my second pear tree to my community plot today. This is a big Bartlett (or Williams) pear tree with a nice lateral espaliered pattern. I hope it survives the transplant. It is about 6 feet tall - I will make an extra support above my 5 foot fence for its top branches.
Any chance you would post pictures of your pear tree? I'd like to see how it's pruned. I bought a peach tree that's still in the nursery container that I want to espalier and a real life example would really be great.
ReplyDeleteI'll post photos soon - BUT - I don't think these as examples of how-to do beautiful espalier. I suppose its useful to see them though even if they give you ideas of what not to do.
