This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

mini watermelon
Wouldn't it be nice to grow a real watermelon! This is my prize - not. Oh well.... Only 2 3/4 inches in diameter and 6.5 oz in weight. I was hoping it would get bigger, but this week I noticed it made a hollow sounding "thump" when I thumbed it. Ripe! Sure enough, its was nice and red inside. Sweet and cute as could be. Just way way too small.
I guess it didn't get enough of some important nutrient to grow large. Probably not enough sun. I have another little one just now forming on the vine. I wonder if this will do any better. These striped melons are supposed to be big ones.
Watermelon (Citrullus lanatus)
Your little watermelon reminds me of my teeny weeny onions, who said size doesn't matter!
ReplyDeleteWhat photoshop program to do use? I am currently just using a cheapo editing program and it is kind of limiting. Like today I needed to change the dpi of a photo and had no way of doing it.
I also visited Niagara Falls this weekend and took a bunch of photo's of an amazing vegetable garden they had at the botanical garden there. I will post them later this week, thought you would be interested in seeing them. I will drop you a line when I post them.
I like little onions and little carrots, but not itsy-bitsy watermelons....
ReplyDeleteI have Photoshop CS3. A very nice version. I look forward to seeing you pictures.
How precious! Tiny though it may be, I hope it is delicious!
ReplyDeleteLove the melon. Personal size. All my carrots & onions were small this year.
ReplyDeletevery precious!
ReplyDeleteMy watermelons were the same size as yours. I'm calling them "diet" watermelons.
ReplyDeleteI was almost too embarrassed to show these. I'm still not sure why I did....
