This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

its plot assignment day !!!!!
I was assigned a FANTASTIC plot!!! I could not have hoped for a nicer one. About 12 ft by 21 ft, with beautiful rich soil. Full sun. In the general location I was hoping for. AWESOME! And, a I met really nice group of gardeners at the plot assignment/clean up event today. More than 50 gardeners turned out to clean up the common areas, and 18 new plots were assigned to new gardeners. Such fun! I'll post more details later. I've got gardening to do now....

ReplyDeleteHi Kathy, I really like your blog. I found it online when I was looking for gardening groups in eastern Mass. We are a community garden in Cambridge and are looking for people to give presentations on gardening on May 10 during our spring kickoff. Would you be interested in speaking? We'd love to hear about garden blogging and how it can build community!
ReplyDeleteWe can't pay, unfortunately, as we lack funds (but are extremely happy!) Email me at romelucca@gmail.com if you are interested!
Best, Linda Young
Congrats! Looks like a great plot. But I hope your newly planted seedlings are surviving this thunderstorm!
ReplyDeletehow much does it cost to get the plot?
ReplyDeleteIt seems very exciting to see your plot for the first time after hearing the plans you have for it. Looks like it was a great day.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful day - a great plot to match your hopes and the bonus of getting to know so many like-minded folks in your local area. I look forward to reading about the adventure you and Skippy will have in the new plot garden :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! It sounds great! I'm so excited to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteThat's really great news! I hope you have a lot of fun with your new plot, and grow a lot of yummy food.
ReplyDeletePaul - It costs $25 per year for a plot at Rock Meadow. Half of this fee covers the cost of water (we have about 15 or 20 spigots scattered around the garden area), the other half is a new fee to going to the town I think they said to contribute to meadow restoration.
ReplyDeleteCongratulation Kathy!! It does look like a wonderful gardening spot and Skippy looks so very pleased. Will this garden have a troll? Are you going to need to buy a bigger freezer? Looking forward to following watching this plot grow.
ReplyDeleteHI Aliceb! The garden has a nice little rusty old chair that I found in the throw away pile today and I'll plan to bring a bird house soon, but I don't know about a troll or gnome.
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't freeze or otherwise store many vegetables. we mostly eat fresh vegetables. I'm just hoping to reduce the amount of fresh vegetables I buy this summer. I'm also planning to grow a variety of root veggies that can store for months in the basement. No new freezer.
