This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

sprouts in winter sown bottles!
I have sprouts in my plastic bottles!!! Lots of them! Its very exciting.
Five of the 12 bottles have nice little sprouts today. They are:
Hollyhock Zebrina, Shasta Daisy Alaska, Wild Tansy, Dukat Dill, and Onions Sweet Yellow Spanish.
Only one problem is that all of the labels on the bottles have washed off. I checked my excessive photo records and with luck came up with the one above with the labels showing. So, not only do I have outdoor sprouts, I even know what they are!
My complete sprouting record is here.

ReplyDeleteLove the photos of your wintersown sprouts. Looks familiar - I have 20+ of those in my garden, and can't resist looking in them daily! I'm just itching to get the sprouts transplanted now. Just a little bit longer....
ReplyDeleteI can't believe how much fun it is, and how easy it was!
ReplyDeleteAh-ha! I didn't know you could get away with the foggy plastic of milk bottles! Can you place them outside during the day in Feb & March? Or inside only? Brilliant solution!
ReplyDeleteThey have been OUTSIDE all the time since Feb. Day and night. I planted them and then immediately put them out and never did anything else (but take pictures.) Its great. No effort. They work like mini greenhouses. Not all types of seeds will work. Only ones that can take the cold. Perennials, cold weather veggies.. experiment...
