This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

pussy willows
My first spring buds/flowers? - catkins of Salix caprea or pussy willows. These are in my backyard.
Do you know if there is any public place near Boston where I could snip off a branch? It's kind of a family tradition to have them wherever you live (in memory of our grandfather, who took us all pussy-willow-hunting), but I haven't seen any yet so far...although, I live in Cambridge near MIT's campus, so I suppose I'm not surprised that I haven't seen them...
This bush is very sheltered and right next to my house. Its always early.
ReplyDeleteThat is a really great photo, the way the water buds up is very cool.
ReplyDeleteSo wonderful! and a sure sign that Spring is on the way, along with catkins!
ReplyDeleteLovely photo...pussy willows are so photogenic and nice to touch, too. :-)
ReplyDeleteThey are getting even bigger and fluffier this week. I'll have to go out with my camera soon. Or maybe I'll just pat them. ;)
