CSA farm tour

inside Gretta's hoop house
Many thanks to Gretta for the wonderful tour of her CSA farm this afternoon. Gretta farms an acre of land here in Belmont MA and produces the most delicious and beautiful vegetables you have seen. Her hoop house is full of seedlings now. She has a lot more information at her site: Belmont CSA News.

  7. I love photos of the inside of seedling greenhouses!! Sounds odd, but I've been market gardening for five seasons now, and I still haven't actually toured other tiny farm operations. I study every picture I can, to see how they do things and how it compares with what I'm up to. Like here, a really simple, obvious thing, but from this photo I realized how much easier it would be, and slightly cheaper, to build screen tables rather than use plywood. That's what I have now, and I need more space this year. And those screens could be used later in the season for sorting and rinsing the weekly harvest (we already have a narrow screen table for that, and could use more!). Cool!

  9. The Belmont CSA is where we have our fall farmshare! I also know Farmer Gretta...who I think of as Gretta the Great...from the farmers' market. Her place is only a few blocks from where I live. How cool is that?

  10. Gretta the Great! I love it! She sure is.

Your location is pretty cool. We are probably neighbors.

I have my first farm share this year. Also a fall share. I can't wait..
