This is a journal of my vegetable gardens. Skippy was my first dog and he thought the garden was his, even though I did all the work. Now Suzie and Charley follow in his footsteps. We're located near Boston (USDA zone 6A). I have a community plot, a backyard vegetable garden, fruit trees, berry bushes, chickens, and bees. I use sustainable organic methods and do my best to grow all of my family's vegetables myself.

the last few cucumbers
It looks like the end of cucumber growing season. Our nights have finally cooled off into the 40s. The basil and squash vines are brown now. Tomatoes leaves are turning yellow. I suppose we'll have a frost soon.
My fall vegetables are growing well and I'm thinking about planning my new garden for next spring. So you're right, I should think of this as a beginning.
We had our first frost a couple of nights ago....about 2 weeks later than our typical date, so I was ready for it! What zone are you in? I have the vegetable garden all cleaned up and covered with leaves now. Visit my blog for some frost photos.
I'm in zone 6b. Last year our frost was late and this year is even later. I did finally clean out most of my summer vegetables today. It'll be cold tonight, but I think not yet a real frost.
Thanks for leaving a comment Connie. I enjoy visiting your site! Your frosted flower photos today are beautiful. I'm impressed you had so many nice flowers blooming right up until the frost.
You sound so sad! Cheer up, it's the beginning of a new season, of sweet carrots and yummy greens!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog, by the way - I check it every morning!
Thanks a lot for the cheer!

Hi again Connie, I see that we are in the same zone! 6b. You are in northern Idaho and I am in eastern Massachusetts.
ReplyDeleteLast year my first heavy frost was not until November 21. Very late. When I first started gardening it would frost in early October. Times change...
