compost surprise

squash compost
I found these in the compost bins this week. Maybe halloween pumpkins? Thanksgiving butternut squash? Gourds? I'll try to find a sunny spot for these volunteers and transplant them soon.

  1. Funny. I just noticed the same, at the same stage of development, in my compost bin today. Pumpkins, I think.

  2. I'm hoping its pumpkins. I think, from the way I flipped the compost, that it could be the Halloween pumpkins. I'd like to have them grow on my vegetable garden fence. My parents let their compost seedlings grow where they are and they do well, but my bin is VERY shady. Last years potato sprouts didn't last. When we get a break from the rain, I'll move them.

  3. I'm sure they are loving the compost. It's nice to have volunteers we want to plant
